2020 Veteran of the Year

Mr. Dale Wilson

Dale Wilson is a United States Army Veteran who was honorably discharged in 1978. Dale served a 10-year sentence at the California State Penitentiary Upon his release, Dale found himself homeless and without a support system. Dale began his journey, at the West LA Veterans Affair Welcome Center, where he spent 1 year in the Salvation Army wellness substance abuse program. During this time, Dale began working at Kingdom Causes Bellflower, Good Soil Industries. Kingdom Causes took the lead in Dale’s case management services and ultimately got him connected to a Veterans Affair Supportive Housing (VASH) voucher.

Seven years later, Dale happily lives in Bellflower with his wife and cats. He actively participates in panels where he shares his journey to housing. As a result of job training with Good Soil Industries, Dale works at the Los Angeles Homeless Services and Authority (LAHSA) as a Homeless Engagement Team member (HET). He uses his journey as a tool to connect and build trust with the individuals he serves.
