AB 256 Cyber bullies
This bill will keep students safe from cyber bullies by allowing schools to discipline students for all types of cyber bullying. Schools do not currently have the authority to discipline a student if cyber bullying occurs from a smart phone, off campus, or at home. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 331 Elections
This bill will protect the integrity of county run elections and guarantee a consistent application of election procedures. This bill will provide for a fairer and more consistent elections process. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 415 Public Utilities Commission Reform
This bill will modify the eligibility criteria for solar water heater incentive rebates to include certification by an accredited listing agency according to standards adopted by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). This measure allows any properly accredited and approved listing agency to certify solar collectors and systems for use in multifamily residential, commercial, government, nonprofit, educational, or industrial applications which qualify for participation in the California Solar Initiative - Thermal Program. AB 507 Death Benefits
This bill will increase the amount that families of classified employees receive for funeral expenses. Currently, the family of the retired classified employee receives $2,000 while classroom teachers receive over $6,000. Average burial expenses are 4 to 5 times the current amount classified employees receive. Status: In Assembly Appropriations Committee.
AB 619 Court Fees
This bill will clarify the amount due to the State Court Faculties Construction Fund when an under remittance occurs. This will not only streamline the payment process but save the state money by reducing administrative expenses. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 750 Safe Harbor
This bill will clearly describe the extent to which a city can provide an economic development incentive. Establishing a "safe harbor” for economic development activities will remove this uncertainty. Status: In Assembly Local Government Committee.
AB 849 Keeping Seniors Safe
This bill will help protect elders from abusers by allowing them to enroll in the State’s confidentiality program. Currently, victims of domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault can keep personal information confidential from records requests. However, victims of elder abuse are not eligible for this same protection. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 971 Paratransit
This bill will ensure that LA Paratransit has the ability to utilize background check to ensure that those who help transport the elderly and disabled are free from criminal and DMV offenses. It is ambiguous whether or not Los Angeles’s Paratransit provider has the authority to check the DMV records and criminal backgrounds of all their drivers. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 1025 Credit By Exam
By making information more readily available, Credit By Exam (CBE) can be used as a tool to help address “bottlenecking" of college students who due to lack of seats and classes cannot enroll in the appropriate classes to fulfill degree or certificate requirements. Status: Signed by the Governor.
AB 1107 Cal WORKS
This bill will require the State Department of Social Services to establish a streamlined process for Cal Works enrollment for victims of domestic violence. This will protect victims of Domestic abuse and give them the tools to escape dangerous abuse. Status: In Assembly Appropriations Committee.
AB 1237 Truth in Accounting
This bill will establish full oversight of city accounting and reporting. This increased transparency will be the first step to restoring consistent and fair financial practices at the city level. Status: In Assembly Local Government Committee.
