(Sacramento) – Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Brown’s proposed budget:
"The Governor’s proposed budget gives hope to California. Years of deficits and cuts have created a surplus of funds now available to programs Californian’s rely on for their health, safety and economic stability. However, I’m still waiting for the day when women need not pay the government a tax just because they have a functioning uterus that bleeds on a monthly basis. It’s 2018 and this is the only gender specific tax. The time’s up to repeal the tax on menstrual products. Women shouldn’t be disproportionately funding California’s revenues with their periods and California should have a gender neutral tax code."
The 58th Assembly District includes the cities of Montebello, Pico Rivera, Commerce, Bell Gardens, Downey, Norwalk, Bellflower, Cerritos and Artesia.
