(Sacramento) – The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced that 50 students across California have been selected to receive a 2019 CLLCF Scholarship, two of whom are from the 58th Assembly district. The Foundation has continued its commitment to helping students in California further their education.
Nancy Alejandra Regis of Montebello who will be attending UCLA and Cristhiam Alfredo Santos of Downey who will be attending Charles Drew University they will each receive a $5,000 scholarship for education purposes.
“Ms. Regis and Mr. Santos embody the American Dream,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens). “Though their struggles are diverse, their resolve to overcome and persevere are exactly the type of tenacity and determination that makes investing in their futures an honor. I am proud to have these students as constituents and know the 58th Assembly District will benefit from them in the future.”
In its fifth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received over 1200 applications from throughout the state, more than triple the applications compared to 2017. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants, and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history.
