California Women’s and Latino Caucus Foundation Awards Scholarships to Five Local Standout Students

(Sacramento) –The Women in California Leadership (WICL), in collaboration with the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, announced today 88 female students from across California have been selected to receive a 2021 Minerva Scholarship.

California Women’s and Latino Caucus Foundation Awards Scholarships to Five Local Standout Students

 

(Sacramento) –The Women in California Leadership (WICL), in collaboration with the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, announced today 88 female students from across California have been selected to receive a 2021 Minerva Scholarship. In its second year of operation, WICL received over a thousand scholarship applications and will be distributing almost a quarter of a million dollars to help advance female students with their higher educational goals. WICL will distribute one $10,000 Golden Minerva scholarship and 87 $2,500 scholarships this year, two of whom are from the 58th Assembly District.

 

Laniya Dawson of Bellflower who will be attending CSU Pomona will receive a $2,500 WICL scholarship.

 

Reyna Rodriguez of Bell Gardens who will be attending UC Riverside will receive a $2,500 WICL Scholarship.

 

The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced that 51 students across California have been selected to receive a 2021 CLLCF Scholarship, three of whom are from the 58th Assembly District. The Foundation has continued its commitment to help students in California further their education. In its seventh year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received over 700 applications from throughout the state. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants, and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history.

 

Emma Espinoza of Norwalk who will be attending CSU Pomona will receive a $5,000 CLLCF scholarship.

 

Miguel Fernandez of Norwalk who will be attending Georgetown University will receive a $5,000 CLLCF scholarship.

 

Mauricio Garcia Garibay of Norwalk will be attending CSU Fullerton will receive a $5,000 CLLCF scholarship.

 

“These students embody the American Dream,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens). “Their struggles and resolve to overcome and persevere are exactly the type of tenacity and determination that makes investing in their future an honor.  I am proud to have them as a constituents and know the 58th Assembly District will benefit from them in the future.”
