CA Latino Caucus Foundation Awards Scholarships to Two Local Standouts
(Sacramento) – The California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF) announced that 60 students across California have been selected to receive a 2018 CLLCF Scholarship, two of whom are from the 58th Assembly district. The Foundation has continued its commitment to helping students in California further their education.
Marisol Garcia of Downey who will be attending UCLA and Oralia Lopez Alcorta of Pico Rivera who will be attending Whitter College will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for education purposes.
“Ms. Garcia and Ms. Alcorta embody the American Dream,” said Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens). “Though their struggles are diverse, their resolve to overcome and persevere is exactly the type of tenacity and determination that makes investing in their futures an honor. I am proud to have these women as constituents and know the 58th Assembly District will benefit from them in the future.”
In its fourth year of operation, the CLLCF Scholarship Program received over 900 applications from throughout the state, more than double the applications compared to 2017. Winners were selected from the highly competitive pool of applicants, and evaluated using the following criteria: academic performance, personal statements, extracurricular activities, leadership positions held, special awards and honors received, and work history.
Details for the 2019 Scholarship Application process will be posted to the website early next year. For complete details about the scholarship parameters, please visit the Foundation website at www.cllcf.org.
