Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia Celebrates Release of Book on Mexican Repatriation

Thursday, December 20, 2018

(Bell Gardens, CA) - Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) celebrated the release of the children's book Bringing Back History, An Untold Story of the Mexican Repatriation  by college student Elsie Guerrero. In 2016, Guerrero was inspired by an  NPR story about Garcia's legislation (AB 146) brought forward by a  class of 5th graders at Bell Gardens Elementary School through Garcia's  'There Ought to be a Law Contest', that requires the teaching of the  Mexican Repatriation in California public schools. Guerrero says she  wrote the book "because it showed perseverance and passion," and "gives  hope to children that they too can have a voice, and that their voice  can be heard." Garcia lauded the book's release saying, "These kids are  an example of how anyone, even if they can't vote, can be a part of our  democratic process." Learn more in this video.
