Cervantes Statement on the University of California Office of the President

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) – The following is a statement from Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) following Tuesday’s legislative oversight hearing on the California State Auditor’s report regarding the University of California Office of the President:

“As an alumna of the University of California, I find our State Auditor’s report about the conduct of the UC Office of the President appalling. At a time when our students are being asked to pay more and more in tuition costs, it is unconscionable that the Office of the President has been hiding a slush fund of $175 million from the Administration and the Legislature. Providing affordable and accessible higher education to our students is, and should be, one of our state’s highest priorities. I call upon the Regents of the University of California to abandon their efforts to raise tuition on our students in light of these revelations.”

Sabrina Cervantes represents the 60th District of the California State Assembly, which encompasses the communities of Corona, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Norco, and a portion of the City of Riverside.
