(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) chaired a field hearing of the Assembly Select Committee on Veteran Employment & Education at Norco College in Norco, California.
The hearing explored expanding employment and educational opportunities for our student veterans at our community colleges. Assemblymember Cervantes led the bipartisan effort to secure ongoing state funding for veterans resource centers at community colleges across California.
“Veterans resource centers are vital to supporting our student veterans,” Assemblymember Cervantes said. “They provide a hub for student veterans to get career counseling or advice on accessing G.I. Bill benefits. I look forward to continuing the larger effort of assisting our brave veterans in their transition to higher education and the workforce.
“I am also proud to have held this hearing on serving our student veterans in our own backyard of Western Riverside County at Norco College. Thanks to President Bryan Reece and his team at Norco College for hosting today’s hearing and supporting our student veterans.”
Witnesses who provided testimony included Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley of the California Community Colleges, and Deputy Secretary Keith Boylan from the California Department of Veteran Affairs.
The hearing was followed by an unveiling ceremony, which included Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood), of the future site of a new veterans resource center that will continue to make Norco College a nationwide example for supporting our student veterans.
