Cervantes Statement on Bill to Reform Mental Health Diversion Process

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) – The following is a statement by Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) regarding the passage of Senate Bill 215 (Beall) by the State Assembly today:

“I am proud to be one of the authors of Senate Bill 215. I did not support Assembly Bill 1810. However, SB 215 represents a good start in providing a fix to AB 1810 by eliminating certain offenses from eligibility for mental health diversion, including murder, manslaughter, and rape.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature, including Senator Jim Beall (D-San Jose), next year to continue to find a balance between providing mental healthcare to those who need it, and ensuring the safety of our communities.”
