Assemblymember Cervantes Honors MaryAnn Sherman as Woman of the Year

For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) - Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Corona) honored lifelong Corona resident MaryAnn Sherman as the 2019 Woman of the Year in the 60th Assembly District.

“I am proud to have selected MaryAnn Sherman as the 60th Assembly District Woman of the Year. Throughout her life, MaryAnn has dedicated her time, energy, and attention to improving the quality of life in our community. Her exceptional leadership, combined with her selfless service to others, is inspirational and most deserving of this honorable recognition,” said Assemblymember Cervantes.

MaryAnn has been a part of Corona’s history for over 50 years. Through her work as a librarian of 25 years with Corona-Norco Unified School District, a Corona Public Library Trustee, and even in retirement, MaryAnn has demonstrated her unwavering commitment to advocating for those who are in need of assistance, attention, and care. She currently serves as the second Vice President of Blue Star Mothers H.O.M.E., Public Relations Officer for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 742, and is an active member of Circle City Kiwanis and St. Edwards Parish. Additionally, she coordinates a produce distribution program, donating approximately 20,000 lbs. of organic produce twice a month to churches, nonprofit organizations, veterans, seniors, and low-income families.

During the annual Woman of the Year celebration, a woman from each Assembly District is honored in the State Capitol. Each honoree was introduced on the Assembly Floor and received a resolution honoring her accomplishments. The annual event has been a Capitol tradition since 1987 as a way to highlight the achievements of outstanding women throughout the State of California during Women’s History Month.
