For immediate release:

(SACRAMENTO) — On Monday, June 5, the California State Assembly celebrated June 2023 as Pride Month with the adoption of House Resolution 33 (Ward) on the Assembly Floor. As part of the ceremony, the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus honored 18 LGBTQ+ individuals in appreciation of their outstanding achievements, advocacy, and leadership towards advancing equality for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies. Among the honorees was activist, social Influencer, actress, and host, Amber Whittington, also known online as AmbersCloset.

“California’s vibrant and diverse LGBTQ+ communities are made up of passionate and dedicated individuals committed to providing representation, visibility and support to LGBTQ+ people across the state. During this Pride Month, my colleagues in the LGBTQ Caucus and I are so proud to honor 18 remarkable LGBTQ+ leaders dedicated to achieving equality for all,” said Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside), Member of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus. “I was especially honored to nominate Amber Whittington, a leading voice in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality. Amber’s work to increase LGBTQ+ visibility, break stereotypes, and shine a light on struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals to a global audience via her YouTube Channel, AmbersCloset, as well as her activism off-screen, serve as an inspiration for other Californians to follow.”

“I am truly honored! Most people recognize me from seeing me dance on the internet, but in reality, I’m on boards, commissions and councils that fight for the betterment of our community. It’s moments like this that truly make me feel that ALL of my work, whether it’s fun videos, parties, activism or board meetings…is all impactful,” said Amber Whittington of Amber’s Closet. “I never would’ve thought that starting my YouTube channel 10 years ago would lead me here, but I am so thankful. My goal is to be a voice to inspire others to use their voice too!”

Amber is an activist, social Influencer, actress and host, whose videos range from motivational/self growth content, LGBTQ topics, fashion, politics and more. She started her channel to help others that might be struggling with their identity and to break stereotypes. Amber believes in changing the world by changing within. Her goal is to empower everyone through positivity, self love, and self confidence so they feel inspired to show their true authentic self to the world and to show up as the best versions of themselves.

Every year, the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus invites honorees from around the state to attend a daylong celebration in our State Capitol. The LGBTQ Caucus recognizes these incredible people for their efforts in helping to advance representation, as well as for being an inspiration to the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

“While we celebrated Pride Month on the Assembly Floor, we cannot ignore the headlines about the spread of misinformation and demonstrations of intolerance and hate targeting our LGBTQ+ community at schools and communities throughout California, including in Riverside County,” added Assemblymember Cervantes. “To ALL members of our LGBTQ+ community watching this unfold, know that the State of California stands with you. You are loved. You matter. And you belong here. We will always fight for the equal rights and dignity of every person.”
