(JURUPA VALLEY, Calif.) – As students and teachers across the state return to the classroom after summer break, Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes proudly helped kick off the school year by recognizing our educators and giving away classroom supplies to teachers at the Second Annual Educate & Elevate: Teacher Appreciation and Supply Giveaway. Over 175 teachers received classroom supplies, ranging from pencils and scissors to tissue boxes and classroom décor. Registrants were also provided dinner and the first 100 received a $20 gift card from CM School Supply.
“We all know of a teacher who has personally transformed the course of our lives for the better,” said Assemblymember Cervantes. “Our teachers are more than educators — they are helping our students grow up to be the best possible version of themselves. It is only appropriate that we recognize all that our educators do day-in and day-out, and this event is one way we are showing that appreciation.”
According to reports, over 90 percent of teachers in the United States pay out-of-pocket for their own classroom supplies and decorations.
“As the daughter of a first-grade teacher, I have seen how much time and dedication our teachers put into the classroom each and every day,” continued Assemblymember Cervantes. “When our teachers succeed, our kids and their families succeed.”
“We need great schools to have great communities,” said Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Gomez. “Teachers are truly the heroes of our society, and it is important that they have the tools needed to empower and educate our students, providing them the skills and knowledge that they need to be successful.”
This annual event held by Assemblymember Cervantes has received overwhelming interest from educators across Southern California. This year’s event was made possible by an array of partnerships with local leaders and community partners, including AAA Automobile Club of Southern California; Schools First Federal Credit Union; Cadiz, Inc.; Amazon; and CM School Supply; with additional support from the Riverside County Office of Education Superintendent of Schools, the Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District, and Western Municipal Water District.
Assemblymember Cervantes said, “To each and every educator, know that we deeply value your work and appreciate your service to our community. Thank you!”
