(SACRAMENTO) — Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D-Riverside), Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, issued the following statement as she transitions out of her role as Chair of the Latino Caucus:
“As I conclude my term as Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, I am overwhelmed with both pride and gratitude for the remarkable progress we’ve made together. Last year, we celebrated an extraordinary milestone: the 50th Anniversary of the Caucus’s formation in 1973. For five decades, our Caucus has been at the forefront of advancing the rights, opportunities, and dignity of Latino communities throughout California, and this legacy continues to inspire and guide our work.
“This year, we marked another important achievement with the California Latino Legislative Caucus Foundation (CLLCF), celebrating its decade of operation by delivering a record-breaking scholarship cycle. Seventy-six outstanding students across the state have been awarded $6,500 scholarships, a total of $494,000—the largest number of recipients and highest award amounts since the program’s inception. This achievement is more than numbers; it is a reflection of our steadfast commitment to ensuring that our Latino youth have access to the opportunities they deserve, to grow, thrive, and lead in the future.
“I am proud of what our Caucus has achieved these last few years. In the 2024-2025 State Budget, we fought to protect critical priorities that serve as lifelines for our communities. From securing funding for programs like Health for All, In-Home Support Services, and CalWORKS, to safeguarding essential resources for immigrant legal services, border shelter support, and youth advocacy, we defended what matters most to our families. These budgetary victories reflect our shared values—equity, justice, and the unwavering belief that every family, regardless of background or status, deserves the opportunity to succeed.
“It has been an honor to serve as Chair of the Caucus and I thank my colleagues for allowing me the opportunity to lead. Our work is far from finished, but the passion and progress we’ve ignited will continue to fuel the movement forward. I look forward to working alongside my colleagues in the years ahead as we continue to break barriers, open doors, and build a brighter, more inclusive future for all Californians.”
