Cervantes Bill Protects Sexual Assault Survivors from Enduring Multiple Trials

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes (D–Corona) testifies before the Assembly Public Safety Committee on her bill to include sexual battery and statutory rape as crimes eligible for consolidation into a single criminal trial. “The purpose of this bill is to expedite the process of prosecuting serial offenses of sexual battery and statutory rape, and to protect and support survivors,” Assemblymember Cervantes said. Assembly Bill 1746 would protect survivors from having to testify about trauma they endured at multiple trials, reduce court costs and allow for swift justice of perpetrators of these crimes.
