Assemblymember Cristina Garcia Issues Statement on Governor Newsom’s Executive Order on Setbacks

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Cristina Garcia (D-Bell Gardens) commends Governor Newsom for his bold action on environmental justice. Today, Governor Newsom announced an Executive Order requiring setback zones for new oil and gas extraction sites in California. Along with setback requirements, the Executive Order also requires pollution mitigation at existing facilities.

Governor Newsom Signs Assembly Bill 367: The Menstrual Equity for All Act

(Sacramento) – Today, Governor Gavin Newsom singed Assembly Bill (AB) 367, the groundbreaking Menstrual Equity for All Act of 2021. AB 367 will require all public schools serving students in grades 6 to 12, Community Colleges, & California State Universities (CSU’s) to stock restrooms with an adequate supply of free menstrual products, commencing in the 2022-23 school year.

(Sacramento)–Today, Governor Newsom signed trailblazing legislation that would include nonconsensual condom removal or ‘stealthing’ in the CA Civil Code. This new law is the first in the nation and confirms that ‘stealthing’ is an illegal act that causes long term physical and emotional harm to its victims and those guilty of ‘stealthing’ will now be held accountable under California law.

“I have been tracking the Schurr High School rodent situation and staying in communication with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH) and the Montebello Unified School District (MUSD) and will continue to stay abreast of the situation. Hopefully the work to clean the school will be done soon and everyone can return safely to the classroom.
